The computers expect combined scoring to total 213-215 when the Clippers take on the Mavericks in Dallas tonight. The quant-based estimate calls for an even higher total of 221 points. The Clippers opened February by dropping their first four games. Further, Los Angeles is only 3-7 versus the number in their last ten contests. Their woes seem attributable to defense rather than offense though, as in their losing streak, the Clips average more than 102 points per game -- well above the league average of 100. However, the Clippers have given up more than 115 PPG (on average) over this stretch. LA's lack of commitment to defense supports the OVER, especially considering that the second-highest scoring offense in the NBA will be occupying the opposite court.
Of note, TeamRankings.com rates the Mavs as a middle-of-the-road defense (15th of 30 NBA teams), hinting that the Clippers might manage above-average offensive productivty as well this evening.
