Fading Timberwolves in unfamiliar position of big favorite: Pistons +12

We are backing the Pistons plus the points in NBA action at Minneapolis' Target Center Sunday, as we expect the Timberwolves are in a tough spot to secure the cover. Minnesota is slated as 12-point favorites as hosts to Detroit, after not laying more than 7.5 at any point this season. In fact, of the four instances so far this year when the Wolves were asked to lay more than seven, they covered the spread just once. It should be noted though that Minnesota's sole cover under this condition came against these very Detroit Pistons, Thursday. Still, 12 is a big leap from 7.5, and we are skeptical (in the Karl Anthony Towns era, the Timberwolves are 10-11 ATS as double-digits favorites).

The Timberwolves recent 128-117 win over the Pistons improved their straight up win streak to three. On the other hand, the loss for Detroit capped a four-game home stand, marred by three straight losses.

In non-conference NBA action, backing teams on losing streaks after home stands of at least four games, versus teams on winning streaks has delivered a 13% return on investment since 2004-05, on an ATS record of 63-45-5.

This angle is 3-1 ATS so far this year.

We also note that the Pistons are 26-14 versus the number following a loss, while the Timberwolves are 11-15 ATS after a win.

Happy betting!!
